This article is about the basic ways of uploading files to popular cloud storage services.

 

1. Google Drive

Google Drive uploads files of any format. Its advantage is simultaneous support for Google Docs (read more on online editing of Word files here).

You can upload files and photos to the cloud via:

  • your PC
    by dragging: open the page drive.google.com (you must be registered) in the browser and drag your files (folders) from the PC to the folder in the cloud storage.
    Load to Google Drive folder: you need to install Google Drive on Windows or Mac, find the folder in the computer’s internal memory and drag the desired files to it; then they will immediately become available in your cloud.
  • Android and iOS devices
    Open the Google Drive app on your phone and press, choose Download, then you can select the desired files. The uploaded content will appear in the My Drive folder.

2. Yandex.Disk

Yandex.Disk is a free and convenient cloud service, especially if you are accustomed to Yandex products. This storage boasts integration with Microsoft Office; it also can edit photos using the built-in image editor.

You can upload files to the cloud via:

  • Your PC
    drag and drop: it is necessary to open the page disk.yandex.com (you must be registered) in the browser and drag the files (folders) from your computer to a folder in the cloud storage.
    Uploading to a Yandex.Disk folder: you need to install Yandex.Disk on Windows or Mac, find the folder in the computer’s internal memory, and drag it to the desired files; after they are synchronized they will become available in your cloud.
  • Android and iOS devices
    The Yandex.Disk app can upload not only files on your phone, but also take pictures and just save them to Disk. Open the Yandex.Disk app on your smartphone, select the folder where you want to place the document, photo and click .Next you will be offered a list of data you can add. P.S. To add a photo from the gallery on an iOS device, you need to select the desired album, select photos you would like to move and click Done.

3. OneDrive

OneDrive is a cloud storage from Microsoft. It is an integrated service in the operating system Windows 10 which allows documents and photos on your computer to be automatically synchronized with the cloud (this feature can be disabled in the settings). It boasts support of Office Online, integrated in OneDrive (for more information on online editing of Excel files click here).

You can upload files to the cloud via:

  • Your PC
    Website: You must log in to your account, then go to the folder in which you would like to place the file and click the Add button. Next, you need to select the files you want and click Open. Also, you can just drag and drop the files as described above.
    Upload via OneDrive app: install OneDrive on Windows 7, Vista (in Windows 10, the application is already built into the system) or Mac, find the folder in the computer’s internal memory, and drag it to the desired files; after they are synchronized they will become available in your cloud.
    From Microsoft Office and Office 365: The desired file can be instantly stored in the cloud without closing the document. In the File menu, choose Save As, then select OneDrive and specify the folder where you want to save the file.
  • Android, iOS and Windows phone devices
    First install an application on a device from the app store.
    Android: using the Share tool you can send documents, music, videos, photos, notebooks to OneNote. To do this, go to the application and select the desired folder. Next, tap Add  in the bottom of the screen, then click Share.
    iOS: touch the icon Add  in the application (located at the top of the screen).You will see a small menu, which will offer to create a folder, take a photo or shoot a video (it opens the camera application and a notification pops up in which you must allow OneDrive access, clicking Yes) and upload existing files (you will then see links to the applications through which you can place files into the cloud; after selecting the desired files click Done).
    Windows phone: in the application folder you need, tap the icon Add , then in the choose application window choose the source of the file sent, find the desired file, select it and click OK

4. Dropbox

Dropbox is a simple and easy-to-use cloud data storage. The main ideology is synchronization and data exchange. It creates a download history so you can recover (within 30 days) a particular file you incidentally removed.

You can upload files to the cloud via:

  • Your PC
    App: when installing the application a folder is created ( approximate location is C:\Users\Panda\Dropbox), to which you can drag any files or photos, as well as entire folders from your computer (P.S. Remember that space in the cloud is not infinite 🙂)
    Website: log into your account online dropbox.com, click the download icon in the window that appears, click Select Files, and feel free to choose what you want to upload to the cloud, then click Start uploading (file size should not exceed 20GB).
  • Android, iOS and Windows phone devices
    First install an application on a device from the app store.
    Android: in the application, open the folder in which you would like to save the files, click on the “+” icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Select Upload photos or videos, or upload files (you can select files from any device section), click Upload (Open)
    IPhone: click on the “+” icon in the application. Then Upload photos or Create or upload file, then press: in the first case Next, select the folder to upload a photo, click Upload. In the second case, simply click Upload file.
    Windows phone: currently you can only upload photos due to operating system restrictions. To do this, in the Dropbox application, click on the folder icon and select the target location to upload the files. Click on the download icon in the Application bar, select a photo from the gallery of your device. Also, uploading can be done directly from the device’s gallery.

5. Cloud Mail.ru

Cloud Mail.ru is a cloud service of the Russian company Mail.ru Group. It has features such as work with shared folders and editing documents, presentations and spreadsheets online; it can automatically check downloaded files for viruses using Kaspersky Antivirus.

You can upload files to the cloud via:

  • Your PC
    Website: in the browser, open the site cloud.mail.ru (you must be registered). Next, at the top of the site, click  (upload) after which you will see a window to which you can drag and drop the desired files, or you can do everything manually. In the lower right corner, you will see the upload status of each file.
    Application: when you install the application, it creates a folder (approximate location: C:\Users\Panda\Mail.ru Cloud), in which you can drag and drop any file or folder from your computer.
  • Android and IOS devices
    First, you need to install an application to your device from app store.
    Android: in the application tap the icon  which is located in the lower right corner; a menu pops out in which you need to select the desired item. After that, upload the file to the cloud.
    IPhone: tap the icon  in the application which is located in the right upper right corner of the screen and select the desired item. Then upload the file to the cloud.
